February has been a busy month for releases from the Visayas and Mindanao. Whether it’s a head-banging garage rock single or a J-pop inspired track, the southern regions of the Philippines continue to prove that some of the best homegrown talents are born here.

Pretty Pretty — IIICCCYYY
IIICCCYYY’s much-awaited debut EP, Pretty Pretty, has finally arrived. The five-track mini-album features production work from acts like Franciskoe, Karl Lucente (of Mandaue Nights), and creative director Nikko Tan. Franciskoe is also the sole featured artist on the EP, where he sings on the track “Love Gun.”
“Don’t Call Me Baby” — She Must Be Dreaming
Dreampop outfit She Must Be Dreaming dropped “Don’t Call Me Baby” earlier this month, their first single of the year. The track is also a follow up to their 2024 track, “Lose My Head/Graveyard Shift.” “Don’t Call Me Baby” is signature She Must Be Dreaming — from the haunting melodies to the heartwrenching lyrics.
“all along (you were right there)” — Wiji Kun
Wiji Kun is back with his pre-Valentines single, “all along (you were right there).” The multi-hyphenate fuses pop punk elements with the tenderness of a love song. This track is perfect for falling in love with the right person, at the right time.
“Head Over Heels” — Franciskoe
Producer, instrumentalist, and artist Franciskoe released “Head Over Heels” for Valentines this year. “Head Over Heels” is pop punk to its very core, with head-banging drums and one of the catchiest choruses of Franciskoe’s discography so far.
“Everbloom” and “Things Left Untold” — Pulsing Chunky
Pulsing Chunky’s twin single release is supercharged with energy, whether you’re listening to “Everbloom” or “Things Left Untold” featuring Ban Omapas. These tracks are perfect for fans of emo and pop-punk, and would be great additions to your playlists.
“Basin Maybe” — KINTO BOYS
“Basin Maybe” (Maybe Maybe) officially marks the debut of the newest pop group from the South, KINTO BOYS. Composed of Sinulog Idol finalists Yad, Raffy, Shim, and Kiery, the four-piece act have made their rounds in Cebu as an act to watch out for. The Bisaya-English track was composed by critically-acclaimed artist Jude Gitamondoc and released under Kadasig.
“i wanna luv you” — felhony
Hip-hop artist felhony builds on the reggae influences introduced in his previous single “Open Up Your Eyes” with his Valentines-themed release, “i wanna luv you.” The track features felhony showing off his singing chops in a tender, tropics-fused love song.
“Be Alright” — Eeyan Paolo, love gwen
Cagayan de Oro’s Eeyan Paolo teams up with love gwen on “Be Alright.” If you’re looking for a good ‘ol jazzy R&B song with entrancing melodies, “Be Alright” is right up your alley.
Die Screaming, You Pig Spawned Trollop! — Queen Atia
Grunge and post-hardcore band Queen Atia debuted their highly-anticipated album, Die Screaming, You Pig Spawned Trollop earlier this month. In a press release, vocalist Niqi Sioux shared that the record is, “kinda political, kinda about girl power, and kinda about us as a band.” Nevertheless, this album is full of anti-establishment rage anthems.
Quarters – &nd
Indie rock and dreampop outfit &nd premiered their debut EP quarters earlier this week. The four-track release features never-before-released songs like “Forrest,” “Waves,” and “2nd Room,” while they included a remastered version of their single, “Best Of Luck.”
“DI NA BALE” — CRXZYKIIDS
Eastern Visayas hip-hop artists band together in “DI NA BALE,” a fierce collaboration between local acts Trescoda, Amiel Edward (performing as YLMRN), Calix Cent (formerly known as POE), Ludwig Saldaña, Noah Alejandre, Cliff, Raven Reyes, vnch., NBLZA, and Meeko Sulla. “DI NA BALE” is also the collective’s debut single, where they now perform as CRXZYKIIDS. The track brings in electronic and pop influences with witty and sharp bars.
“My first kiss (and probably your last)” — Boylosers
Dumaguete’s Boylosers makes a stellar debut with “My first kiss (and probably your last).” The indie and garage rock anthem is raw, grungy, and full of youthful yearning.
“Heart, Attacks” — NINO
NINO embraces the uncertainty of falling in love in his debut single, “Heart, Attacks.” Produced by acclaimed hip-hop and R&B producer KYLEGOTSCREWED, the indie pop track is sweet, honest, and endearing in how its approaches love.
“Unsa’y Gibati” — Jericho Streegan
Jericho Streegan slows it down in the sultry Bisaya-English R&B track titled “Unsa’y Gibati” (How Does It Feel). Streegan’s voice is as smooth as ever, and this track is oozing with slick riffs about love.
