Southeast Asian baddies rise.
Cebu’s IIICCCYYY, Singapore’s ALICIA DC, and Laos’ Thinlamphone premiered their one-of-a-kind collaboration titled “Talk To Me” earlier this month. The track, which was written and produced in one day at the AXEAN Music Festival Songwriting Camp in Bali, Indonesia last year, begins with a memorable hook that draws influence from Lao folk music, expressed by Thinlamphone’s beautiful vocals, before pivoting into dance-pop with exhilarating verses from ALICIA DC and IIICCCYYY.
In a press release, the three artists shared that they “wanted to express the electrifying and sometimes terrifying, yet exciting feelings that one experiences while having an intense crush on another person.”
This is further emphasized throughout the song, where listeners can hear a multitude of ways of how the familiar thought of “I like you” can be expressed through English, Bisaya and Lao, the mother tongues of each of the artists.
“Talk To Me” was co-produced by Singaporean producers Ian Lee and Daniel Alex Chia, who also are part of the studio-slash-indie record label PK Records.
